Rescue and Reinvention
A wave in celeb religious conversions speaks to the current crumbling culture
Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington recently revealed that he has been officially baptized into the Christian faith via the Kelly Temple, a Church of God in Christ (COGIC) congregation located in Harlem. Washington, 69, has also received his minister’s license, although reports have not indicated what he intends to do with the new title.
Washington has identified himself as a Christian throughout his life, but this seems to be the first time he has taken a step towards a deeper commitment to the faith. His wife of 41 years, Paulette, spoke at his baptism ceremony at Kelly Temple.
“Forty-six years later, here I’m still standing next to him as only God will have it,” the actress — who shares kids John, 40, Katia, 37, and twins Olivia and Malcolm, 33, with Denzel — said as her husband sat on the steps of the pulpit, seemingly wiping away tears.
“So, I’m very proud of you. You are the head of our house and you have set a great example for our children, who are now adult children who know the difference because we have shown them the difference.” -Pagesix.com
The “Man on Fire” star’s religious awakening marks yet another high-profile celebrity making a public conversion or statement of faith. Last year, comedian and film star Russell Brand announced he has converted to Christianity, posting pictures of his water baptism. Tattoo artist and influencer Kat Von D, once fully ensconced in witchcraft, embraced Christianity and left the bowels of Los Angeles for the saner plains of Indiana.
Social media personality/OnlyFans star Angela White is better known as Blac Chyna and the ex-girlfriend of Rob Kardashian. They share a child together, and White recently revealed she had given her life to Christ and was turning over a new leaf. She has since had her fillers and implants dissolved, seemingly in pursuit of a more faith-based path.
There are, of course, many more people in the celebrity class who profess belief in Christ either publicly or privately. As Washington told a reporter a few months ago, those people are around Hollywood, they’re just not very vocal.
“I don’t care what anyone thinks. See, talking about the fear part of it — you can’t talk like that and win Oscars. You can’t talk like that and party. You can’t say that in this town,” the Academy Award winner added.
“I’m free now. It’s not talked about in this town. It’s not talked about. It’s not talked about. It’s not fashionable. It’s not sexy. But that doesn’t mean people in Hollywood don’t believe.”
However, there does seem to be some measure of a spiritual awakening happening in many unlikely public figures. I’m sure there are all kinds of explanations for this, including a larger spiritual shift that seems to be happening across America in general.
One theory I’ve landed on recently has to do with one of the biggest growing scandals in modern culture - Sean “Diddy” Combs.
As the hip/hop mogul currently stews in jail, social media is filling up with shocking allegations against not only Combs, but many other powerful players in the music industry - allegations that include things like rape, child abuse and even murder. It’s worse than that, if you can imagine. What may ultimately be revealed, when all is said in done, is that the entire modern elite corporate music industry is just a giant sex trafficking operation, albeit one that provides pop entertainment on the side.
November 5th seems to have awakened the American psyche from its slumber and suddenly we are seeing through shadows and around corners. The shiny veneer of diplomacy, held in place by rank censorship and moral rot, is melting away to reveal an ugly underbelly of American society.
It’s not just that we’re finally seeing what our beloved entertainers have been up to at their freak-off parties and island getaways. After four years of pretending Joe Biden was the sharpest politician on the world stage, America is collectively discovering the complete intellectual bankruptcy of the legacy media.
They lied about Biden. They lied about Trump. They lied about Kamala. They lied about the polls. By the time dawn broke on November 6th the spell had pretty much been broken.
Election night sent a lot of the status quo set scurrying. With an incoming cabinet that could include Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Kash Patel, there looks to be a lot of dark corners that are going be illuminated and it will be ugly. There is no doubt there are a lot of nervous swamp critters on the Hill right now.
Even the collapse of the “celebrity endorsement” this election cycle seems to signal a larger collapse in the darker elements of our society. Americans see the Diddy and Weinstein scandals and understand all these people were complicit in keeping terrible, criminal secrets. We don’t want to be lectured about moral political choices from the Epstein Island crowd.
All this to say - it’s all falling apart, and people are scared. Important people are scared. Influential people are scared. Many in the entertainment industry chose darker teams, in pursuit of fame and riches. In many respects, those teams are losing, at least for now, and the consequences could be disastrous for some.
I think a lot of people are looking for protection, in the deepest spiritual sense of the word. I do not believe it is insincere for the majority of cases I’ve observed. I do believe it is rooted in fear, because some of these people have witnessed and maybe even been a party to some of the most degraded behavior imaginable. When you are trapped by the god of your own desires, the only way out is to find a more powerful God.
There is none more powerful than Yahweh.
It seems obvious to me that at least some of these public figure conversions are a result of people realizing the old gods are losing, and needing rescue.
And that is a totally legitimate reason to seek out the Lord and commit oneself to Him.
In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. Psalm 18:6
As the walls cave in, some will reach for rescue and others will simply scurry further down into the darkness.
For those sincerely reaching for rescue, I hope they find it. There are no chains too strong for God to break and now is a time for change. The moment is ripe for rescue and reinvention.
