Even with all of our challenges, America is still the greatest country on earth.
That has been my mantra over the last four Independence Days. The Davis family still celebrated our nation’s birthday, even in the darkest of days; but that celebration was always weighed down by the mildew of the Biden administration. No matter. America is always worth celebrating and Kira Davis is always the life of the party, even during the worst of times.
This year feels different.
This year feels…hopeful.
Even just referring to hope triggers a bit of trauma. The Obama years brought us “hope and change” and led us right down the path of destruction. Every societal divide we are facing right now was brought to us directly by the Barack Obama White House, and whomever he left there to manage Joe Biden.
But I can’t think of a better way to explain the (please forgive this overused word by now) vibe in America.
I shared this story on X recently:
That’s the vibe.
It isn’t about where we are right now. We are still shaking off the fog of the Biden years and many of us are just trying to treat the hangovers.
It is about where we are heading, and like that young gym-bro told his friends as I walked past, where we’re heading feels pretty f***ing good. Better than it has in a long time; and that’s enough to make this Independence Day feel a whole lot more red, white and blue.
This year feels like…a relief.
It feels like a cool towel on the back of the neck after a long and desperate marathon.
It feels like taking off your wet clothes after a tedious trek in the rain.
It feels like we’re celebrating America’s greatness for the first time in a long time.
I’ve been holding my breath for four years. Given the incredible culture shift that happened almost overnight in November of 2024, I sense all of America has been doing the same thing.
This year, this Independence Day, we are collectively letting out our breath.
This Independence Day we can finally, truly be ourselves, and celebrate as ourselves - proud Americans who understand the nuanced history of our great nation and value that history as God’s path to prosperity and freedom.
Tomorrow, we can go back to discussing America’s faults and follies and how we make those better.
Today, we are Americans.
Today, we celebrate greatness.
And hope.
Today is the first Independence Day of the new Golden Age of America.
God bless our President. God bless your family. And God bless the United States of America.
Well said Kira.
Happy Independence Day! The clouds have burned off and the sun is shining bright.
