I'm a salty GenX-er. That means I'm pretty practical, I hate whining and don't ask me for McDonald's unless you got McDonald's money. I mostly prefer to let stupid people be stupid and save my energy for more interesting conversations.
All that to say, as the culture around us becomes more and more absurd and fantastically bizarre, I find myself rolling my eyes and looking away. It's almost too insane for a sane response. The Book of Proverbs has been warning us of that futility for thousands of years.
Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him -Proverbs 26:4
Sometimes the concepts are so fundamentally basic that I feel like a moron for even having to say them out loud.
Women don't have "bulges."
Men can't have babies.
Sex with kids is bad.
I believe this is the entire point of this exercise, at a molecular level. The idea is to make normal people too frustrated to chime in and speak up. The idea is to make the idea a non-idea. If you've got nothing solid to grasp, you've got nothing to argue.
This is why I think, even at the risk of sounding like a first grader, we must not shrink from responding to these dangerously childish ideas. Truth is being murdered every day, a death by a thousand paper cuts and a million TikTok accounts.
I saw this recent headline from a UK publication.
My immediate response felt almost too simplistic to voice out loud without sounding like a petulant child...
UK authorities are so obsessed with "far-right violence" they are advocating for the destruction of personal free speech and boldly instructing the public on ways to self-immolate on the altar of Big Tech. Yet they openly, and without even the slightest hint of shame or self-consciousness, give violent Muslim rioters and climate activists a free pass to behave however they like in public - to maim, kill and destroy. We've seen actual video of UK "police" simply walking away when confronted with Muslim or leftwing activist violence, even as we've witnessed officers barging into the homes of average, peaceful residents and arresting them with vigor for the crime of posting a meme.
The dichotomy is so stark it seems frustratingly ridiculous to even point it out.
But we must not give in to that impulse. That is their goal - to beat us with stupidity until we sew our own mouths shut just to make it stop.
People like us need to keep saying the simple truths out loud. We must override the intellectual in our brain trying to tell us that if someone is dumb enough to believe this garbage (whatever garbage is on display at that moment) they're simply not worth our time. That mind in particular may be too captured for rescue, but someone somewhere with a shred of clarity left in their brain may see your response. They may need to hear it. They may think about it. They may change their mind in that moment, but most likely they'll just tuck it away in a file cabinet in their brain, where it will be joined by other bits of contraband information over the months and years until one day that person is ready to see the entire case laid in front of them.
Lies are sexy because they are quick and easy and they require no depth of understanding...like Chelsea Handler.
The truth is a long game and it is far less attractive. The truth is simple and in a world that has killed nuance and confusingly complicated even the most basic of principles, simplicity sounds like insincerity.
Keep saying the simple truths. They need to be heard.
You are a guardian. Respond accordingly.
Gen X as well. I feel like we are living Idiocracy except it’s not funny. You mentioned Proverbs. My pastor recommended reading a Proverb a day. Here’s one I underlined: Proverbs 2:11-14: “Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you. It will rescue you from the way of evil-from anyone who says perverse things, and those who abandon the right paths to walk in ways of darkness, from those who enjoy evil and celebrate perversion…”
Hope all is well. Enjoy reading your thoughts.
I so love when someone with a platform says the thing no one else with a platform will say.
BRAVO! We hear you, Kira! We are with you! We pray for you!
