There has been a non-stop postmortem being performed on the Democrat party since their epic defeat last November. The question-du-jour: how Can Democrats fight their way back to a winning position?
The answers coming from the left aren’t inspiring thus far.
The Democrat party needs new messengers.
The Democrat party needs better podcasters.
The Democrat party needs more cussing.
None of these ideas will work, of course. The Democrats don’t have a problem with the messaging, they have a problem with the message. Their message isn’t just awful, it is disturbing.
Case in point- California Democrats.
This week, Public Safety Committee in the Assembly took up a bill for consideration that would impose automatic felony charges for the purchasing of children for sex.
Ok. So far so good. Who could be mad about that?
Amazingly, the bill ignited an internal war among the supermajority Democrats on the committee. Some representatives wanted to exclude sixteen and seventeen year-olds from the legislation.
You read that right. California Democrats are perfectly fine with the rape and prostitution of sixteen and seventeen year-old Californians. According to Democrats, some children don’t deserve to be covered by the strongest letter of the law.
The fight lasted exactly a day. Committee Chairman Nick Schultz told reporters the provision will be stripped from the bill before it moves on. Older teenagers will not receive the same protections as other children against sex traffickers and abusers.
Why? Why would it be at all controversial to include older teens in a bill - a Democrat bill- designed to protect children from violent sex crimes?
The longer you spend pondering the question, the darker the answers become. The truth is, this is the Democrat message. The “sexual liberation” of children is a key leg of their platform. Don’t believe me? Ask any of the parents fighting pornographic textbooks, transgender madness and sexual identity clubs in their schools right now…this very moment.
I’ll let you think about why it’s important to some darker entities to sexualize children as early as possible. That’s a rabbit hole we don’t want to jump down right now. Suffice to say…how in the hell do you sell that message? How do you convince Americans you care about anything they care about when you keep trying to do weird things to their kids?
AB-379 will continue through the review process, eventually getting a second hearing and then a vote to push it through to the general assembly.
Americans spoke resoundingly against the Democrat agenda last November. In fact, their decision was a nuclear bomb that changed the country overnight. California has been somewhat insulated from that monumental shift, due in no small part to our Democrat supermajority in Sacramento. The only reason Democrats here can get away with this mind-bending depravity is because of that supermajority. Clearly, it’s going to take “the vibe” a bit longer to shift here, at least in the halls of our Capitol.
The shift is already beginning, with a Governor’s race looming for 2026. Gavin Newsom will be attempting to take his hair care campaign to Washington D.C., and Californians will have one more opportunity to shift gears and switch lanes and do any other motorist metaphor you care to apply here. Last week, Fox News’ Steve Hilton announced his intention to seek the office, and popular law-and-order Sheriff Chad Bianco of Riverside County is enjoying some momentum among the grassroots. The mood of the general electorate seems to be in flux, at least anecdotally. The true test, of course, will be election season.
The Democrat supermajority is in no danger of disappearing in the next election cycle or two, but they’ve never been more vulnerable and their biggest weakness is they think no one is watching them. But that is different too. Legacy media is covering a broader range of stories. The L.A. fires focused the attention of the national media on our flailing state, laying bare the devastating depths of our disarray. Private insurance is cratering, leaving home and vehicle owners completely exposed. Everyone in California is looking for someone to blame and no one can blame Republicans because Democrats own the entirety of our government, and have for 20 years.
The outcome, naturally, remains to be seen. In the meantime, more and more Californians are beginning to recognize the inherent absurdity of many Democrat policy positions.
‘Absurdity’ is a kind word for it. I find it decidedly demonic.
