President Trump gets a lot of grief from the left for his nonstop trolling of the legacy media. He has repeatedly described them as, of course, “fake news.” That accusation was so effective it is now a regular part of the American lexicon. A term the President uses more rarely, but is certainly more inflammatory, is “enemy of the people.” Trump has made the point over the years that the legacy media is largely responsible for the violent divisiveness in America.

The usual suspects in the media continue to provide the usual response to the President’s complaints - martyrdom. Every criticism from Trump elicits a cascade of public pronouncements about the sanctity of their profession, the danger of their jobs, and the emotional burden of their world-saving mission. No story is more important to the left-wing media than the heroism of the left-wing media.

But the longer this iteration of the weird American journey goes on, the more Trump’s complaints make sense. CNN’s latest antics provide a case in point.
